A kondensatrør, or condensate drain pipe, is a critical component in many heating and cooling systems, particularly those that utilize condensation as part of their operation. Its primary function is to safely and efficiently remove the liquid water that forms as a byproduct of the system's process.

In furnaces and boilers, the combustion of fuels produces exhaust gases. High-efficiency condensing furnaces, for example, extract additional heat from these gases, causing water vapor within the exhaust to condense into liquid water. This condensate, if not removed, can lead to corrosion, damage, and reduced system efficiency. The kondensatrør channels this liquid away from the appliance to a suitable drain, such as a floor drain or a condensate pump.

Similarly, air conditioning units and high-efficiency heat pumps also produce condensate. As warm, humid air passes over the cold evaporator coil, moisture in the air condenses on the coil's surface. This water then drips into a drain pan and is carried away by the kondensatrør to prevent water damage to the building and to ensure proper operation of the cooling system. The material of the kondensatrør is typically PVC or copper, chosen for its resistance to corrosion and its ability to withstand the temperatures of the condensate. Regular inspection and maintenance of the kondensatrør are important to prevent clogs and ensure uninterrupted system performance.
