Kompaniyalari, also known as the "Company Islands," is a group of small islands located in the Pacific Ocean, approximately 1,000 kilometers north of Fiji. The archipelago consists of 10 islands, with a total land area of about 1.5 square kilometers. The islands are uninhabited and are part of the Republic of Kiribati. The name "Kompaniyalari" is derived from the Dutch word "compagnie," which refers to a company or corporation, reflecting the historical ties of the islands to Dutch trading companies.

The islands were first discovered by European explorers in the early 18th century. They were later visited by Dutch traders, who established a trading post on one of the islands. The islands remained under Dutch control until 1885, when they were ceded to the German Empire. During World War I, the islands were occupied by Australian forces. After the war, the islands were administered by the United Kingdom as part of the British Western Pacific Territories. In 1979, the islands became part of the independent Republic of Kiribati.

Today, Kompaniyalari is a protected area, with strict regulations on visitor access to preserve the natural environment. The islands are home to a variety of plant and animal species, including several endemic species. The archipelago is also an important site for migratory birds.
