Kolmitaisinen is a former municipality in the region of Northern Finland, located within the former province of Lapland. It was first documented in the late 16th century as a small settlement along the banks of the Kolmit river, a tributary of the larger Paasjoki waterway. The name Kolmitaisinen, meaning "three-structured" in Finnish, is traditionally believed to refer to the three distinct hills that rise on the outskirts of the village, each forming a natural lookout point for early settlers.
