Koagulationsfaktor refers to a group of proteins in the blood plasma that are essential for the process of hemostasis, also known as blood clotting. These factors work in a complex cascade to form a fibrin clot, which stops bleeding. When a blood vessel is injured, a cascade of enzymatic reactions is initiated. This cascade involves a series of inactive precursor proteins, called proenzymes, which are sequentially activated. Upon activation, these factors trigger the next step in the cascade, ultimately leading to the conversion of fibrinogen, a soluble protein, into fibrin, an insoluble protein. Fibrin then forms a meshwork that traps blood cells and platelets, creating a stable clot.
