Klienstanúsítványok refer to client certificates, which are digital certificates used to authenticate a client, such as a user or a device, to a server. These certificates serve a similar purpose to passwords but rely on cryptographic key pairs rather than memorized secrets. A client certificate contains the client's public key and identifying information, signed by a trusted Certificate Authority (CA).

When a client attempts to connect to a server that requires client authentication, the server can request the client to present its certificate. The client then sends its certificate to the server. The server verifies the certificate's authenticity by checking its signature against the CA's public key. If the certificate is valid and trusted, the server can then use the client's public key to establish a secure, encrypted communication channel, often as part of a Transport Layer Security (TLS) handshake.

The use of klienstanúsítványok enhances security by providing strong, verifiable identity assurance. This is particularly useful in scenarios where traditional username and password authentication might be insufficient or vulnerable, such as in enterprise networks, secure remote access, or financial transactions.
