Kelvinlämpötilat, also known as Kelvin temperature scale, is an absolute thermodynamic temperature scale where zero Kelvin, denoted as 0 K, is the coldest possible temperature. This absolute zero is the theoretical point at which all molecular motion ceases. The Kelvin scale is part of the International System of Units (SI) and is used widely in scientific and engineering contexts.

The Kelvin scale is defined by setting the triple point of water to exactly 273.16 K. A kelvin is defined as 1/273.16 of the thermodynamic temperature of the triple point of water. Unlike Celsius or Fahrenheit, Kelvin does not use the degree symbol. The size of one Kelvin unit is equivalent to the size of one degree Celsius.

To convert from Celsius to Kelvin, one simply adds 273.15. For example, 0 degrees Celsius is equal to 273.15 K, and 100 degrees Celsius (the boiling point of water at standard atmospheric pressure) is equal to 373.15 K. Conversely, to convert from Kelvin to Celsius, one subtracts 273.15. The Kelvin scale is crucial for understanding phenomena like thermodynamics, statistical mechanics, and astrophysics, where absolute temperatures are fundamental.
