Kategóriához is a Hungarian grammatical form derived from the noun kategória. It is the dative singular form used with verbs and prepositions that govern the dative, and it expresses direction toward or belonging to a category. The construction is common in contexts where items are classified or tagged according to a system of categories.

In Hungarian, the dative suffix comes in three variant spellings -hoz, -hez, and -höz, chosen according to vowel harmony and the final sound of the stem. With kategória, the form that results in kategóriához is used, because the stem ends with a back vowel. This form is comparable to other examples such as könyvhez (to the book) or stílushoz (to the style).

Kategóriához is most often seen with the verb tartozik, meaning “to belong to.” For example: Ez a cikk a technológiai kategóriához tartozik.
