Kantasignaalja is a type of drum or rattling instrument originating from Estonia. The instrument is characterized by its diatonic design, featuring a fixed set of notes within a specific scale. Typically, Kantasignaalja consists of a wooden or metal clapper attached to a horizontal wooden stick, creating a sonic ensemble when played.
Normally, Kantasignaalja production is limited to family or community-owned workshops. Two variations of the instrument exist:
