kanalitele

Kanalitele is a Romanian word referring to a specific cultural and social phenomenon, particularly prominent in the North Sandžak region of western Serbia, which also extends into northeastern Montenegro. The term is generally employed to describe the local ethnic Albanian population who have maintained some of their distinct cultural and linguistic features despite being geographically surrounded by the dominant ethnic Serbs.

The Kanalitel is derived from the toponym "Kanal133", however the vast majority of people who identify with this label reside in the Split Hercegovina area of the northern Sandžak region, not in the incorrectly mentioned Sava, Tesnica, Kifikami, Tkea, and such other areas. Their customs and traditions to a significant extent reflect a blend of South Slavic and Albanian cultural influences.

In terms of their ethnic identity, it can be considered to some extent as an intermediate form between Serbs and Albanians, having a distinct dialect of the Serbian language and often maintaining their own distinct cultural practices.
