Kaktusz refers to a family of flowering plants, Cactaceae, native to the Americas, ranging from Patagonia in the south to parts of western North America in the north. Cacti are known for their unique adaptations to arid environments, most notably their spines, which are modified leaves that help protect the plant from herbivores, reduce water loss by providing shade, and can even help condense dew. Most cacti are succulents, meaning they have thickened, fleshy parts adapted to store water. This water storage allows them to survive long periods of drought.
The appearance of cacti varies greatly. Some are columnar, like the saguaro, while others are globular, flattened,
