Kaasulähteiden refers to a variety of phenomena and geological formations from which gases are released into the Earth's atmosphere or hydrosphere. These sources can be natural or anthropogenic. Natural sources include volcanic activity, where gases like sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide are released from magma. Hydrothermal vents on the ocean floor also emit gases, often rich in hydrogen sulfide and methane. Seeps from subsurface oil and gas reservoirs can release methane and other hydrocarbons to the surface. Biological processes, such as decomposition in wetlands and swamps, produce methane, while respiration by organisms releases carbon dioxide.
