Kütmist is an Estonian term used to describe the process of burning or combustion. In scientific and technical contexts it denotes the chemical reaction in which a fuel reacts with an oxidizer, releasing energy as heat and light.

Combustion is an exothermic oxidation process. The products and efficiency depend on the type of fuel, the amount of available oxygen, and how well the reactants are mixed. When fuel burns with sufficient oxygen, the reaction is called complete combustion, producing primarily carbon dioxide and water. If oxygen is limited or the burning is uneven, incomplete combustion occurs and can produce carbon monoxide, soot, and other pollutants.
