ködképzdés

Ködképződés refers to the process by which fog forms. Fog is essentially a cloud that forms at or near ground level. It is composed of tiny water droplets or ice crystals suspended in the air. The formation of fog requires specific atmospheric conditions.

The primary ingredient for ködképződés is moisture in the air. This moisture can originate from various sources, such as evaporation from bodies of water, transpiration from plants, or precipitation. When the air becomes saturated with water vapor, meaning it can no longer hold any more moisture, the process of condensation can begin.

Another crucial factor is cooling. Air cools as it rises or comes into contact with cooler surfaces. When moist air cools to its dew point, which is the temperature at which the air becomes saturated, the water vapor begins to condense. This condensation occurs around tiny particles in the air, such as dust, salt, or smoke, which act as condensation nuclei.

Several types of fog formation exist, depending on the cooling mechanism. Radiation fog forms on clear, calm nights when the ground cools rapidly by radiating heat into space. Advection fog occurs when warm, moist air moves over a cooler surface. Steam fog, also known as evaporation fog, forms when cold air moves over warm water. Upslope fog develops when moist air is forced to rise up a slope, cooling and condensing as it ascends. The type of ködképződés influences the duration and density of the fog.
