This concept most famously applies to Germany, which was divided into East Germany (German Democratic Republic) and West Germany (Federal Republic of Germany) after World War II. The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the subsequent political and social changes led to the official reunification of Germany on October 3, 1990, an event often referred to as "jälleenliittämisenä" in Finnish.

The process of jälleenliittämisenä involves complex political negotiations, economic integration, and social adjustments. In the German case, this meant harmonizing legal systems, economic structures, and social policies between the former East and West.
