Jejuenum is not a standard anatomical term in widely used medical literature. It may be a misspelling or misinterpretation of jejunum, the middle portion of the small intestine, or it could reflect a local or fictional usage. Because there is no established definition in major reference works, most discussions that use this spelling will instead address the jejunum or provide disambiguation.

If referring to the jejunum, it is the portion of the small intestine that lies between the duodenum and the ileum. In adults, it typically accounts for about two-fifths of the length of the small intestine, roughly 2.5 meters, though this can vary. The jejunal wall is characterized by prominent circular folds (plicae circulares), numerous villi, and rich vascular supply, which together create a large absorptive surface area.

Functionally, the jejunum is a primary site for nutrient absorption. It largely completes the digestion of carbohydrates and proteins and begins substantial absorption of fats, sugars, amino acids, and vitamins. Brush-border enzymes on the enterocytes facilitate final carbohydrate and peptide digestion, while bile and pancreatic secretions contribute enzymes and emulsification to aid absorption. The jejunum also plays a role in the active transport of minerals and fluids.

Clinical relevance includes its involvement in small bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease, small-bowel obstruction, and neoplasms.
