Jahutustsüklid refers to cooling cycles, a fundamental concept in thermodynamics and mechanical engineering. These cycles describe the process by which heat is removed from a low-temperature source and transferred to a high-temperature sink. The most common and widely recognized cooling cycle is the vapor-compression refrigeration cycle, which forms the basis of most refrigerators, air conditioners, and heat pumps.

The vapor-compression cycle involves four main stages: evaporation, compression, condensation, and expansion. In the evaporator, a refrigerant absorbs heat from the space to be cooled, changing from a liquid to a gas. This low-pressure gas then enters the compressor, where its pressure and temperature are significantly increased. The high-pressure, high-temperature gas then flows to the condenser, where it releases heat to the surroundings and condenses back into a liquid. Finally, the liquid refrigerant passes through an expansion valve, which reduces its pressure and temperature, preparing it to enter the evaporator again and repeat the cycle.

Other types of cooling cycles exist, such as absorption refrigeration, which uses heat energy to drive the cycle instead of mechanical work, and thermoelectric cooling, which utilizes the Peltier effect. The efficiency of a cooling cycle is often measured by its Coefficient of Performance (COP), which is the ratio of the cooling effect to the work input. Understanding these cycles is crucial for designing and optimizing systems for cooling, heating, and various industrial processes.
