Isoprenederived refers to chemical substances that are produced from isoprene or constructed from isoprene units. Isoprene, or 2-methyl-1,3-butadiene, is a five-carbon diene that serves as a fundamental building block for a broad class of natural products known as isoprenoids or terpenoids.

In biology and industry, isoprenoids are assembled from isopentenyl pyrophosphate (IPP) and dimethylallyl pyrophosphate (DMAPP). Through successive condensations, these five-carbon units form larger intermediates such as geranyl, farnesyl, and geranylgeranyl pyrophosphates, enabling the production of monoterpenes (C10), sesquiterpenes (C15), diterpenes (C20), and larger terpenoids. Isoprenederived compounds include natural rubber (polyisoprene), a wide range of fragrances and flavors (for example limonene and pinene), pigments like carotenoids, and many terpenoid-derived pharmaceuticals.

Applications of isoprenederived materials span materials science, agriculture, and consumer products. Isoprenered polymers include polyisoprene used in tires and seals, as well as various bio-based resins and specialty chemicals. Isoprenoid derivatives also play roles in cosmetics, fragrances, and nutraceuticals.

The term isoprenederived is not a strictly defined chemical category; in formal contexts, scientists more often use isoprenoid-derived, terpene-derived, or isoprene-derived to indicate origin or carbon skeleton. Nonetheless, isoprenederived is widely used to convey that a substance or its building blocks originate from isoprene units.
