isderivedfrom is a binary relation used in knowledge representation, data modeling, and provenance to state that one entity originates from another. When a claim is made that A is derived from B, it signals a lineage, transformation, or source relationship in which B serves as the antecedent or origin of A. The exact interpretation depends on domain: derivation can be computational (data processing), conceptual (terminology), or evolutionary (phylogeny).

In ontology practice, isderivedfrom may be defined as a property with domain and range constraints appropriate to the dataset. It is often used to record that a data artifact, concept, or artifact was produced from a source artifact.
