Ioniliuokset, often translated as ionic solutions, are mixtures where ionic compounds have dissolved in a solvent, typically water. In these solutions, the ions that constitute the solid ionic compound separate from each other and become surrounded by solvent molecules. This process is called dissociation. For example, when sodium chloride (NaCl) dissolves in water, the Na+ and Cl- ions break apart and are dispersed throughout the liquid.
