ionikoostumukset
Ionikoostumukset, or ionic compounds, are chemical compounds composed of ions held together by electrostatic forces, known as ionic bonds. These compounds typically form between elements with significantly different electronegativities, usually a metal and a nonmetal. The metal tends to lose electrons, becoming a positively charged ion (cation), while the nonmetal gains electrons, becoming a negatively charged ion (anion). The opposite charges of these ions attract each other, forming a crystalline lattice structure.
Ionic compounds are characterized by their high melting and boiling points due to the strong electrostatic
Common examples of ionic compounds include sodium chloride (NaCl), which is table salt, and calcium carbonate
