Iodreduksjonsbaserte (iodine-reduction-based) approaches describe processes and methods in which reduction of iodine-containing species is central. The term is common in Norwegian and other Scandinavian scientific literature, used to classify reactions and systems that rely on the gain of electrons by iodine species to effect transformation.

Applications span several fields. In organic synthesis, reductive deiodination removes iodine substituents to give deiodinated products, typically using metal reductants (for example zinc or iron), hydride donors, or catalytic hydrogenation with palladium or nickel. In environmental chemistry, iodide-reducing processes transform iodine species such as iodate to iodide and dehalogenate organoiodines, affecting iodine mobility and persistence in water and soils. In analytical chemistry, iodide/iodine redox systems are used in titrations and sensor-based assays.

Advantages include the potential for selectivity under relatively mild conditions, while limitations involve competing redox processes, the risk of over-reduction, and the need for careful control of reagents, pH, and iodine speciation.
