Interventrikulära is a Swedish term meaning inter-ventricular or located between the ventricles. In medical usage the adjective describes structures, spaces or relations that lie between the heart’s ventricles or the brain’s ventricles. It is used across anatomy, physiology and clinical descriptions to specify position or connections involving ventricles.

In cardiology and cardiac anatomy, the most prominent use is the interventricular septum (septum interventriculare), a muscular wall that separates the left and right ventricles. The septum has muscular and a small membranous portion near the heart’s fibrous skeleton. It contains parts of the cardiac conduction system and contributes to the proper separation of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood. Clinically, defects in this region, such as ventricular septal defects (VSDs), are among common congenital heart abnormalities. The heart’s surface also features the anterior and posterior interventricular sulci. These grooves house major vessels: the anterior interventricular sulcus contains the left anterior descending artery and the great cardiac vein, while the posterior interventricular sulcus contains the posterior descending artery and associated veins.

In neuroanatomy, interventricular can refer to structures between brain ventricles. A key example is the interventricular foramen (foramen interventriculare, also known as the foramen of Monro), which connects the lateral ventricles to the third ventricle and allows cerebrospinal fluid flow. Obstruction, hemorrhage or other pathology within the ventricles can lead to hydrocephalus or elevated intracranial pressure. Thus, interventrikulära covers a range of contexts where ventricular relationships are clinically and anatomically significant.
