Intensitetit is a term used across disciplines to describe the magnitude, strength, or concentration of a quantity. In physics and engineering, intensity typically refers to energy or power per unit area or per unit solid angle. Radiant intensity I is the power emitted by a light source per unit solid angle and is measured in watts per steradian (W/sr). Related quantities include irradiance, the power per unit area arriving at a surface (W/m^2), and radiance, which describes power per unit area per unit solid angle. Acoustic intensity is the sound power per unit area (W/m^2).

In statistics and probability, an intensity function describes the instantaneous rate at which events occur. For a Poisson process, the intensity function specifies the expected number of events per unit time, and it may vary over time or space, carrying units of events per time (or per area).

In exercise science and medicine, intensity denotes the effort level of a task. It can be quantified through physiological measures such as percentage of VO2max or heart rate, or through subjective scales like the Rating of Perceived Exertion.
