Induktsioonpliidid, also known as induction cooktops, are a type of electric stove that uses electromagnetic fields to heat cookware directly. Instead of heating a burner element which then transfers heat to the pot, induction cooktops create a magnetic field that causes the molecules in the base of the cookware to vibrate rapidly, generating heat. This process is significantly more energy-efficient than traditional electric or gas stoves because very little heat is lost to the surrounding air.

The primary advantage of induction technology is its speed and precise temperature control. Since the cookware heats up directly, water boils much faster compared to other stovetop methods. Users can also make very fine adjustments to the heat level, mimicking the responsiveness of gas cooking. A key requirement for induction cooking is the use of ferromagnetic cookware. This means pots and pans made of materials like cast iron or magnetic stainless steel will work. Aluminum, copper, and glass cookware will not function on an induction surface unless they have a special ferromagnetic base. Visually, induction cooktops often feature a smooth, glass-ceramic surface, making them easy to clean and giving them a modern aesthetic. They are a popular choice in modern kitchens due to their efficiency, safety, and performance.
