Immunorecognition is a fundamental process in the immune system, where immune cells identify and respond to foreign substances, such as pathogens, that enter the body. This process is crucial for maintaining homeostasis and protecting the organism from infections. Immunorecognition involves the interaction between immune cells, such as T cells and B cells, and antigens, which are molecules that trigger an immune response.

The process begins with the presentation of antigens to immune cells. Antigens can be derived from pathogens, such as bacteria or viruses, or from self-cells that have been damaged or altered. Professional antigen-presenting cells (APCs), such as dendritic cells and macrophages, play a key role in this process by capturing antigens, processing them into peptides, and presenting these peptides on their surface using major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules.

When a B cell encounters an antigen, it can activate and differentiate into plasma cells, which produce antibodies specific to that antigen. These antibodies can neutralize pathogens, mark them for destruction by other immune cells, or enhance their clearance.

This specificity is achieved through a combination of molecular recognition, signal transduction, and regulatory mechanisms that control the activation and differentiation of immune cells.
