imia
Imia is a small, uninhabited island located in the Aegean Sea, part of the Dodecanese chain of Greece. It is situated very close to the Turkish coast, specifically to the west of the Bodrum Peninsula. The island is rocky and arid, with minimal vegetation. Its strategic location has led to it being a point of contention between Greece and Turkey, though it is under de facto Greek administration. Despite its small size, the waters surrounding Imia are of significant interest for fishing and maritime navigation. The island has been the subject of several diplomatic incidents and military standoffs between the two neighboring countries over territorial claims. These incidents have often been heightened by the presence of Turkish and Greek coast guard vessels. The rocky terrain offers no natural resources or significant strategic advantage beyond its proximity to the Turkish mainland.
