ilmen

Ilmen is a toponym used in Russia for several geographic features and localities. The most prominent association is with the Ilmen Mountains, a granite- and gneiss-dominated mountain range in the Southern Ural region, extending across parts of Chelyabinsk and Sverdlovsk Oblasts near the towns of Miass and Zlatoust. The range forms part of the Ural Mountains and has long been a source of minerals and ore; its name is notable for giving rise to the mineral ilmenite, a titanium-iron oxide, which was first described in the area and derives its name from these mountains.

The name Ilmen has also been used for various settlements and geographic features in Russia, usually tied
