Idzítk is a fictional sociocultural concept described in speculative fiction and world-building materials. It denotes a ritual process through which a community encodes, preserves, and enforces a shared memory of people, places, laws, and customs. In its in-world use, idzítk also serves as a social contract that guides behavior and governance.

Etymology: The word idzítk comes from the fictional Vyren language, combining elements for binding and memory. In most texts it is written in Latin script as idzítk and appears in various spellings such as idzitk or idžitk in older sources.

Origins and cultural context: The earliest references appear in the Chronicles of the North Realms, dated to roughly the 11th century of the in-world calendar. The practice spread across neighboring regions through councils and kinship networks, with regional variants emphasizing different memories, such as migration routes, oaths, or crafts.

Practice and mechanics: The central ritual implements an idzítk disk, a circular platter on which short motifs are inscribed as they are remembered. A cycle is typically performed in a communal gathering: a lead storyteller, a memory keeper, and participants contribute motifs. After the cycle, the compiled memory is archived publicly and used to adjudicate disputes, legitimize leadership, and transmit craft knowledge. Deviations from the established memory cycle are treated as breaches of trust.
