Hypothetikos is a Greek adjective meaning “pertaining to a hypothesis” or “hypothetical.” The term is the source of the English words hypothetical, hypothesis, and related forms. Its etymology lies in hypo- (under, by way of) and thesis (placing or proposition), historically used to describe something placed under consideration as a premise or assumption.

In philosophy and logic, hypothetikos is used to describe reasoning, arguments, or propositions that rest on supposition or conditional premises.
