Hydratsiooni refers to the process of adding water molecules to a substance. In chemistry, this often involves the formation of hydrates, which are compounds containing water molecules incorporated into their crystal structure. The water molecules are typically bound by coordinate covalent bonds to the central metal ion or through hydrogen bonding to other parts of the molecule. When a hydrate is heated, it can lose its water of crystallization, a process known as dehydration. The reverse process, rehydration, can occur if the dehydrated compound is exposed to moisture.
