Huvudenergikällorna, or primary energy sources, are the forms of energy that are directly extracted from natural resources before being converted into other forms of energy. These sources are the foundation of global energy consumption and power the vast majority of human activities.

The most significant primary energy source globally is fossil fuels, which include coal, oil, and natural gas. These are formed from the remains of ancient organisms over millions of years and are extracted from the Earth's crust. While nuclear power does not produce greenhouse gas emissions during operation, concerns exist regarding radioactive waste disposal and safety.
