Hovrätter are intermediate appellate courts in Sweden. They handle appeals from the district courts (tingsrätter) and are also the first instance for certain types of cases, though this is rare. There are six hovrätter located in Stockholm, Jönköping, Gothenburg, Sundsvall, Umeå, and Malmö.
