Hiukkasvuorovaikutus, known in English as particle interaction, refers to the fundamental ways in which subatomic particles influence each other. These interactions are governed by the fundamental forces of nature. The four known fundamental forces are gravity, electromagnetism, the strong nuclear force, and the weak nuclear force. Each force mediates interactions between specific types of particles and has a characteristic range and strength.

Electromagnetic force, for instance, acts between electrically charged particles and is responsible for phenomena like light, electricity, and magnetism. It has an infinite range but its strength decreases with distance. The strong nuclear force, on the other hand, is the strongest of the fundamental forces but acts only over extremely short distances, binding quarks together to form protons and neutrons, and holding atomic nuclei together.

The weak nuclear force is responsible for certain types of radioactive decay, such as beta decay. While weaker than the strong force and electromagnetic force, it is stronger than gravity and has a very short range. Gravity is the weakest of the forces but has an infinite range and is responsible for the attraction between objects with mass. Particle interactions are crucial for understanding the structure of matter, the evolution of the universe, and the behavior of matter at the smallest scales. These interactions are described by quantum field theories, such as the Standard Model of particle physics.
