Hitastýringu, or temperature control, is the regulation of a system's temperature to a desired setpoint. It aims to keep the temperature within a predefined range despite disturbances such as heat gain or cooling load. Temperature control is central to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), industrial processing, electronics cooling, and many household appliances.

A typical temperature control system consists of three elements: a sensor to measure temperature, an actuator to change the temperature (such as a heater, cooler, valve, or fan), and a controller that determines the actuator output based on the difference between the measured temperature and the setpoint.
