Healization refers to the process by which a wound or injury progresses through its natural stages of repair. This biological phenomenon involves a complex interplay of cellular and molecular events aimed at restoring the integrity of damaged tissue. The primary stages of healization are typically described as inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling.

The inflammatory phase is the body's immediate response to injury. It involves the recruitment of immune cells to the site of damage to clear debris, prevent infection, and initiate the repair process. This is often characterized by redness, swelling, heat, and pain.

Following inflammation, the proliferative phase begins. During this stage, new tissue is generated to fill the wound. This includes the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis), the deposition of collagen by fibroblasts, and the migration of epithelial cells to cover the wound surface. Granulation tissue, a key component of this phase, is formed.

The final stage is remodeling, also known as maturation. In this phase, the newly formed tissue is reorganized and strengthened. Collagen fibers are rearranged, and the tissue becomes more organized and less cellular. This process can take months or even years, and the healed tissue may not fully regain its original strength or appearance. Factors such as wound size, location, infection, and underlying health conditions can significantly influence the speed and success of healization.
