Hajuerosoluista, also known as olfactory receptor neurons or ORNs, are specialized nerve cells located in the olfactory epithelium of the nasal cavity. These cells are responsible for the sense of smell, or olfaction. Each ORN expresses a single type of olfactory receptor protein on its surface. When a specific odorant molecule, a chemical compound that triggers a smell, binds to a corresponding receptor protein, it initiates a signal transduction pathway within the neuron.

This signaling cascade leads to the generation of an electrical impulse that travels along the neuron's axon to the olfactory bulb in the brain. The olfactory bulb processes this information, and it is then relayed to other brain regions, including the piriform cortex, amygdala, and hippocampus, for further interpretation and integration with other sensory information and memories. The vast diversity of olfactory receptor proteins, with humans having hundreds of different types, allows for the detection and discrimination of a wide range of odors. This complex system enables us to perceive and react to the chemical environment around us.
