Gyökökkel is the plural instrumental form of the Hungarian noun gyök, meaning “roots.” The instrumental case in Hungarian marks means, instrumentality, or accompaniment, and when the noun is plural, the suffix is rendered as -kkal/-kkel. Because gyökök ends with -ök, attaching the instrumental suffix yields gyökökkel, a form that often shows assimilation with the preceding consonant, resulting in a double k.
