Grammatikai is a term found in Greek linguistic and philological contexts, typically transliterated from the Greek feminine plural or noun form grammatikaí. It relates to grammar in its broad sense, encompassing the description of a language’s rules for morphology, syntax, and usage. In this sense, grammatikai can denote grammatical works, studies, or categories of grammar.

Historically, the Greek word grammatiki (grammar) gave rise to terms referring to those who teach or study grammar. In ancient, Byzantine, and medieval education, grammatikai or grammatikoi described scholars and teachers responsible for teaching reading, writing, and the rules of language.
