Globalizimi is the process by which economies, societies, and cultures become increasingly interconnected across national borders. The phenomenon is often described as having economic, political, cultural, and environmental dimensions that reinforce each other.

Historically, globalization has deep roots in early trade networks and imperial expansion, but it accelerated after the Industrial Revolution and gained new momentum in the second half of the 20th century with liberalizing reforms, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of the internet. Global production and finance networks grew more complex, enabling firms to source inputs from multiple countries and to sell into many markets.

Key aspects include economic globalization (trading of goods and services, cross-border investment, supply chains), political globalization (international institutions, treaties, and regulatory coordination), cultural globalization (mass media, migration, and cultural exchange), and environmental globalization (shared ecological challenges and cooperation). Digital technology and data flows have become central to many of these processes.

Impacts are uneven. Globalization has supported economic growth and poverty reduction in some regions, while contributing to job displacement, wage pressures, and rising inequality in others. It also raises concerns about labor standards, environmental protection, cultural diversity, and national sovereignty.

Governance occurs through institutions such as the World Trade Organization, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank, along with regional agreements and national policies. Ongoing debates focus on managing interdependence to promote development, protect workers and the environment, and preserve autonomy while fostering global cooperation.
