In practical applications, gauge pressure is the most commonly used measurement for systems like tires, balloons, and pressure cookers. For instance, when a tire gauge indicates 32 psi, it means the air pressure inside the tire is 32 pounds per square inch higher than the surrounding atmospheric pressure. If the atmospheric pressure were 14.7 psi, the absolute pressure in the tire would be approximately 46.7 psi.

The relationship between gauge pressure, absolute pressure, and atmospheric pressure is straightforward: Absolute Pressure = Gauge Pressure + Atmospheric Pressure.
