Gasskondensater, also known as gas condensates or simply condensates, are liquids that form when a gas cools down or its pressure is reduced. This process is the reverse of vaporization, where a liquid turns into a gas. Condensates are typically composed of heavier hydrocarbon molecules that were present in the gaseous state at higher temperatures or pressures.

The formation of gas condensates is a common phenomenon in various natural and industrial settings. In the petroleum industry, natural gas extracted from underground reservoirs often contains significant amounts of condensates. As the gas is brought to the surface and pressure decreases, these heavier hydrocarbons condense into a liquid. This liquid condensate is then separated from the natural gas and can be further processed to extract valuable components like natural gas liquids (NGLs).

Condensates can also form in everyday situations. For example, when a cold glass of water is exposed to warm, humid air, water vapor in the air cools on the surface of the glass and condenses into liquid water droplets. Similarly, in a domestic environment, steam from cooking or a hot shower can condense on cooler surfaces like windows or mirrors. Understanding the principles of condensation is important in many fields, including meteorology, chemical engineering, and industrial process design.
