gallegas

Gallegas is the feminine plural demonym for people from Galicia, an autonomous community in northwestern Spain. The term refers to women who originate from Galicia or have Galician heritage. Gallegas may identify with Galician culture, language, and regional customs.

Most Gallegas are bilingual, speaking both Galician (Galego) and Spanish. The Galician language is a Romance tongue co-official with Spanish in Galicia and features distinctive vocabulary and phonology. Gallegas, as part of Galician society, participate in cultural traditions such as regional music, dance, and cuisine—seafood dishes, empanadas, and wine.

Galicia lies along the Atlantic coast, with a landscape marked by green hills, a rugged coastline, and a strong maritime heritage. The Galician diasporas, particularly in Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil, have historically produced communities of Galician descent, sometimes described in historical sources as gallegas.
