Fénykibocsátásban is a Hungarian term that translates to "light emission" or "luminescence" in English. It refers to the process by which a substance or object emits light. This emission can occur through various mechanisms, each with its own distinct characteristics and underlying physics.

One common form of light emission is incandescence, where an object emits light due to its high temperature. As an object is heated, its atoms vibrate more intensely, releasing energy in the form of photons. The color and intensity of the emitted light depend on the temperature of the object, a principle described by Planck's law. Examples include the filament of an incandescent light bulb or the glow of a heated metal.

Another significant type is luminescence, which is light emission not caused by heat. Phosphorescence and fluorescence are subclasses of luminescence. Fluorescence occurs when a substance absorbs energy from a light source and immediately re-emits light at a longer wavelength. This process is rapid and stops when the excitation source is removed. An example is the glow of fluorescent lights or optical brighteners in detergents. Phosphorescence is similar but involves a slower re-emission of light, causing the substance to continue glowing for some time after the excitation source is removed, as seen in glow-in-the-dark materials.

Electroluminescence is the emission of light in response to an electric current or field. This is the principle behind light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), which are widely used in displays and lighting. Chemiluminescence, on the other hand, is light produced by a chemical reaction, such as in glow sticks. Bioluminescence is a form of chemiluminescence that occurs in living organisms, like fireflies.
