frumukjörnum
Frumukjörnum, often translated as cell nuclei, are membrane-bound organelles found in eukaryotic cells. They serve as the primary control center of the cell, housing the organism's genetic material in the form of DNA. This DNA is organized into structures called chromosomes, which contain the instructions for cell growth, metabolism, and reproduction. The nuclear envelope, a double membrane, surrounds the nucleus and regulates the passage of molecules between the nucleus and the cytoplasm through nuclear pores. Within the nucleus, the nucleolus is a dense structure responsible for ribosome synthesis. The fluid-filled space inside the nuclear envelope is called the nucleoplasm. The primary function of the frumukjörnum is to protect and organize the cell's DNA, and to control gene expression, thereby dictating the cell's activities and characteristics.
