Frekvensändring, often translated as frequency change or frequency shifting, refers to the alteration of the frequency of a wave. This can occur in various contexts, including sound, light, and electromagnetic waves.

One common phenomenon related to frequency change is the Doppler effect. When the source of a wave and an observer are moving relative to each other, the observed frequency of the wave will differ from the emitted frequency. If the source and observer are moving closer, the frequency increases, and if they are moving apart, the frequency decreases. This effect is responsible for the change in pitch of a siren as an ambulance passes by.

In electronics and telecommunications, frequency changing is a deliberate process. Frequency mixers are used to combine two signals and produce new signals at frequencies that are the sum and difference of the original frequencies. This is a fundamental technique in radio receivers and transmitters for tuning to specific channels and for signal modulation.

In optics, frequency changing can be achieved through nonlinear optical processes. For example, frequency doubling involves taking a light beam and producing a new beam with twice its original frequency, and thus half its original wavelength. This is used in lasers for generating specific wavelengths of light.

The concept of frequency change is also relevant in signal processing, where algorithms can be designed to modify the frequency content of a signal, for instance, to filter out unwanted frequencies or to analyze the spectral components of a sound.
