Fosforilações are chemical reactions in which a phosphate group is added to a molecule. This process is fundamental to many biological and chemical processes. In biology, it is a key mechanism for regulating the activity of proteins, as well as for energy transfer and storage. The addition of a phosphate group can alter a protein's shape, thereby activating or deactivating it, or it can mark a protein for degradation. Enzymes called kinases catalyze the transfer of phosphate groups, typically from ATP, to a substrate. Conversely, phosphatases catalyze the removal of phosphate groups.
