Fosfaatiaioni, also known as phosphate ion, is a polyatomic anion with the chemical formula PO4^3-. It is a negatively charged species formed from the element phosphorus and oxygen. The central phosphorus atom is covalently bonded to four oxygen atoms, with a net charge of -3 distributed across the ion.

In aqueous solutions, phosphate ions can exist in various protonated forms depending on the pH. At very low pH, the fully protonated form is phosphoric acid (H3PO4). As the pH increases, one, two, or three protons can be removed, leading to the formation of dihydrogen phosphate (H2PO4^-), hydrogen phosphate (HPO4^2-), and finally the phosphate ion (PO4^3-) at high pH.
