Foggyökérérintkezés, also known as root canal treatment or endodontic therapy, is a dental procedure performed to save a tooth that is severely decayed or infected. The process involves removing the pulp, a soft tissue inside the tooth containing nerves and blood vessels, which has become inflamed or infected.

The procedure typically begins with the dentist administering local anesthesia to numb the area. An opening is then made in the crown of the tooth to access the pulp chamber. The infected or inflamed pulp is carefully removed using specialized instruments. Once the pulp is cleared, the inside of the tooth, including the root canals, is thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and shaped. A biocompatible material, usually gutta-percha, is then used to fill the cleaned canals. Finally, the opening in the tooth is sealed with a temporary or permanent filling. Often, a crown is recommended afterward to protect the treated tooth from fracturing.
