Fenolbased, also written phenol-based, refers to substances or materials that are built around or derived from phenol, a hydroxyl-substituted aromatic compound. In industrial chemistry the term is commonly used for phenol-based resins and polymers, as well as other materials in which phenolic units constitute a major portion of the structure.
The most historically significant fenolbased polymers are phenol-formaldehyde resins, produced by condensation of phenol with formaldehyde.
