They describe a system where the output of a process is measured and fed back to influence the input, thereby regulating the process to achieve a desired state. This continuous cycle of measurement, comparison, and adjustment is what distinguishes a feedback control loop.

Positive feedback, conversely, amplifies deviations, leading to instability or rapid changes, and is less frequently used for stabilization but can be employed in specific applications like oscillators.

Feedback control loops are ubiquitous, found in everything from simple household appliances like ovens and washing machines to complex industrial processes, aircraft autopilots, and biological systems such as the regulation of blood sugar. Their ability to maintain a system at a desired operating point despite disturbances makes them indispensable for achieving precision and reliability.
